Scar management

As a leading burn and plastic surgeon working in one of the busiest centres for the management of burns and scarring in the UK, Mr Markeson is well positioned to offer the best and most up-to-date treatments for managing scarring. His evidence-based approach ensures that from the most minor of blemishes to the most severe of scars, he can offer hope to his patients of a successful outcome.

Procedures offered:

• Scar revision (surgical) - this can be performed under a local or general anaesthetic depending upon the size of the scar. Mr Markeson can improve some hypertrophic (thickened/painful/itchy) scars or keloid (very enlarged) scars through surgery.

• Steroid +/- 5-FU injection - most commonly performed under a local anaesthetic, this option may be combined with other treatment modalities such as laser.

• Microneedling (non-surgical) - Mr Markeson is the only consultant in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to offer NHS paediatric microneedling clinics. He performs microneedling for children and adults to improve the colour, feel and appearance of scars.
